Weather Effects Calculators

This application automates several calculations of the effects of weather. The automated scripts cover: Weather Effects on Assets, Weather Effects on WFF, Weather Effects on Critical Values, and Weather Effects on COAs. These scripts replace the need to look through spreadsheet for each part of the weather for each of your assets. It's a webpage that you store on your laptop and runs locally, so it doesn't require any internet connection or installation. You can save it on your desktop and run it without any admin rights. Enter the weather for that day and hit calculate. All the effects will be calculated for you. Makes it easy to copy and paste into your daily briefs using screen capture. [FM34-130 2-23, FM 34-81-1, FM 34-130 B-27, FM 34-130 B-25, Weather Index RDO 9JAN2007]

Version 2 released. Improved the javascript and html/css layout, simplified the entry screen. Calculated effects appear in a new window so you can copy them more easily into PowerPoint.

Version 3 now released in beta (as seen above). Integrated a second calculator for the Weather Effects on the War Fighting Functions and Courses of Action..

Are you interested in testing out Version 3 ? Download zip file here or
Click here to give it a try!

Version 4 is being programmed now. This will be a more heavy-lift application that will require internet access since it will rely on post-back and xml. Instead of entering the day's weather you'll just enter your current lat/long. The program will pull your location's weather from an RSS feed, calculate the effects on assets, and present the data back to you. An iPhone application functioning the same way would probably be released simultaneously giving you access to weather calcs from wireless environments. We want your feedback on this. Good idea, bad idea, thoughts, suggestions?

Illumination Calculator

This application is being written now. It automates the calculation of illumination data in a similar way to the weather calculator. This will be a local html file on your laptop, enter your lat/long and confirm today's date. It will display the current illumination times for your brief in a format that's ready to copy and paste in.

iLumination the must have iPhone App

As part of the development of the online weather calculators we wanted to see about creating a slimmed down mobile application. This will be a free app for your iPhone, Droid, iPad and Blackberry. It will determine your location based on GMT (from your phone's settings), sends out web calls to our server, and returns the illumination data for any given day. We're making this a template for delivering more weather data and weather effects to mobile devices. If you'd like to test drive the iLum try our beta link here.
